On March 16, the first match of the season between Atlanta United and Inter Miami CF will take place during Sunday Night Soccer. This fixture has become increasingly competitive over time, with both teams showcasing significant football talent. The upcoming game is expected to feature some of the top players in Major League Soccer this season.

Atlanta United holds a recent record of four wins, one draw, and one loss against Inter Miami. However, Miami enters the match on an impressive streak, having remained unbeaten in their last 11 matches, including preseason games. Their last defeat was a memorable 3-2 loss to Atlanta in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Chris Henderson, Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director for Atlanta United, will be observing his team face off against his former club. This adds another layer of intrigue to the match.

The history between these two teams includes several notable encounters:

- On September 29, 2021, Atlanta United secured their first victory against Inter Miami with Josef Martínez scoring a penalty goal that marked his 100th for the club.

- On September 16, 2023, Atlanta defeated Miami 5-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Despite Leonardo Campana's two goals for Miami, Atlanta dominated with goals from Tristan Muyumba and Brooks Lennon among others.

- Lionel Messi made his debut against Atlanta on May 29, 2024. Although he scored for Miami, Atlanta won the match 3-1 with Saba Lobajnidze scoring twice.

The rivalry intensified during last season's Eastern Conference Best-of-3 Series in the MLS Cup Playoffs. After splitting the first two games with each team winning once by a scoreline of 2-1, Atlanta emerged victorious in Game Three with a dramatic win featuring goals from Jamal Thiaré and Bartosz Slisz.

Inter Miami seeks redemption as they have only managed one win and one draw in their last six encounters with Atlanta United. Meanwhile, Atlanta aims to maintain their dominance when they meet again on Sunday night at 7 p.m. ET.
