Atlanta United has appointed Ronny Deila as their new head coach, filling the position after six months without a permanent manager. Deila is set to take over coaching duties for the 2025 MLS season. In an introductory interview conducted via Zoom, Deila shared his thoughts on joining Atlanta United and his coaching philosophy.

Deila expressed enthusiasm about joining the club, stating, "When this opportunity came up, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to do it." He emphasized the family-like atmosphere of the club and noted his previous experiences playing against Atlanta United as factors in his decision.

Chris Henderson's recent appointment as chief soccer officer and sporting director, alongside CEO and president Garth Lagerwey, influenced Deila's choice. "It's about the person," he said. "We three are very similar in the way we see things."

Discussing Major League Soccer (MLS), Deila highlighted its rapid development and competitiveness. He remarked on the league's growth and appeal to international players: "There's so many nice stadiums around and a lot of people in the stands."

Deila also praised Mercedes-Benz Stadium, describing it as one of the nicest venues globally. Reflecting on its capacity to attract large crowds, he said, "Hopefully, we can get back to the big heights as well."

Regarding his coaching philosophy, Deila stressed a focus on winning through control of games with possession play. He aims for an offensive-minded approach combined with energetic pressing.

As he begins his tenure at Atlanta United, Deila assessed the current roster positively: "They got better and better during the playoffs... It's a group that works hard together."

Deila looks forward to building a strong relationship with fans through traditions like the "Ronny Roar" from his time at Celtic. Outside football, he enjoys sports competitions with family and friends and traveling.
