Atlanta United has appointed Chris Henderson as the club's chief soccer officer and sporting director, marking a significant addition to their front office. The announcement was made by Atlanta United president and CEO Garth Lagerwey, who emphasized Henderson's proven track record of success in Major League Soccer (MLS).

At his introductory press conference, Lagerwey described Henderson as "a proven winner." Henderson is set to begin his first season with Atlanta in 2025, bringing with him 18 years of experience in MLS. He previously spent 12 years with the Seattle Sounders and four years as the sporting director at Inter Miami.

During his tenure at Inter Miami, Henderson constructed a team that clinched the inaugural Leagues Cup title in 2023. In 2024, Miami achieved a new regular season points record of 74, secured the Supporters’ Shield trophy, and earned the top seed in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. However, they were eliminated in Round One by Atlanta United.

Henderson's career at Seattle Sounders was marked by consistent success; he helped build a team that reached the playoffs for all 12 consecutive seasons after joining MLS in 2009. This consistency is something he aims to replicate with Atlanta.

Throughout his career as an executive, Henderson has won nine trophies across two teams. His accolades include four U.S. Open Cup Championships (2009-2011, 2014), two Supporters' Shields (2014, 2024), four Western Conference Championships (2016-2017, 2019-2020), two MLS Cups (2016, 2019), and one Leagues Cup (2023).

Before transitioning to an executive role, Henderson had a notable playing career as a midfielder with five different franchises in MLS. He amassed a total of 348 appearances and won the MLS Cup with Kansas City Wizards in 2000.

Henderson also represented the United States men's national team on numerous occasions during his playing days. He earned 79 caps and participated in events such as the FIFA World Cup in 1990 and the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992.

Chris Henderson's background includes playing college soccer at UCLA where he was named an All-American and led his team to an NCAA national championship victory in 1990.
