Duracell Inc., a prominent U.S. battery manufacturer, has announced a $56 million investment to establish its new global research and development headquarters at Georgia Tech’s Science Square in Atlanta. This initiative is expected to create 110 high-paying jobs and enhance Atlanta's status as a center for technological innovation.

The decision to relocate the R&D facility from Bethel, Connecticut, highlights the strategic benefits offered by Georgia Tech and Atlanta’s growing innovation ecosystem. The new hub is planned to open in Summer 2026.

“This collaboration is a testament to our ongoing efforts to bridge academia and industry, fostering an environment where innovative ideas can thrive and lead to groundbreaking advancements," stated Ángel Cabrera, president of Georgia Tech.

The investment is anticipated to significantly impact the local economy. With average salaries estimated at $120,000, the creation of these jobs will provide valuable opportunities for local talent. Duracell's presence will also bolster existing battery research, development, and manufacturing activities in Georgia.

“Georgia has set itself apart as a leader in attracting innovative companies with our research institutions, world-class logistics network, and pro-business environment,” said Governor Brian Kemp.

Duracell has maintained a relationship with Georgia since 1980 through its manufacturing facility in LaGrange and distribution plant in Fairburn that began operation in 2000.

“We’re excited about the opportunities the move to Atlanta will bring,” commented Liben Hailu, chief technology officer at Duracell. “This move is a significant milestone for Duracell as we continue to drive innovation in battery technology for many years to come."

Science Square is developed alongside commercial real estate firm Trammell Crow Co., serving as a prime location for life sciences and technology companies. Covering 18 acres, it includes over 1.8 million square feet of lab and office space along with apartments and retail space. The first phase opened last year; Duracell's new hub will occupy a substantial portion of this development.
