The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that the suspect charged with the murder of a Georgia mother is an illegal immigrant from Honduras. The suspect, David Hector Rivas-Sagastume, was reportedly released at the U.S. border in March 2021 under the Biden administration and had a deportation order since July 2023.

According to Cobb County police, Rivas-Sagastume is accused of killing Camillia Williams, a mother and grandmother, and disposing of her body in a wooded area. He faces charges of capital murder. Authorities believe the attack was random. Williams' family mentioned to local station WSB-TV that she had expressed concerns about being followed by a man before her death.

A DHS statement provided to Fox News detailed Rivas-Sagastume's entry into the United States: "David Hector Rivas-Sagastume, a 21-year-old Honduran national, entered the United States illegally on March 17, 2021, and was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol. He was issued a notice to appear and paroled into the country by the previous administration." The statement further noted that "a judge ordered him removed on July 11, 2023."

Rivas-Sagastume was apprehended by Cobb County Police on March 18, 2025, for capital murder among other charges. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has filed an immigration detainer with Cobb County Jail.

The DHS statement concluded with a commitment from President Trump and Secretary Noem: "President Trump and Secretary Noem will not allow criminal illegal aliens—including accused murderers—to be loose on America’s streets."
