The TechArts Festival at Georgia Tech is set to run from March 28 to April 18, showcasing the intersection of art and technology through a series of events. The festival, now in its 12th year, includes theater and concert performances, art exhibits, and innovative installations created by students, faculty, and staff.
Thomas Brazzle, assistant director of Georgia Tech Arts, emphasized the festival's role in providing a platform for the campus community to express themselves artistically. "The goal of TechArts Festival is to allow the campus community to express themselves through their artistic craft or medium in multiple ways," he said. Brazzle also noted the festival's growth due to new events like the Art Crawl and GT Arts Block Party.
This year's festival will feature immersive elements such as virtual reality and motion capture that explore how arts intersect with technology. "Art helps us understand our society better," Brazzle remarked. He believes that art will continue to thrive by adapting alongside technological advancements.
Brazzle sees an opportunity for Georgia Tech Arts to empower students in STEAM education by integrating technology with artistic practice. "I believe the future of art is through technology," he stated, highlighting how engineering or manufacturing studies can have parallels with art.
Georgia Tech plans to develop an arts district at the former Randall Brothers site, which Brazzle believes will position Georgia Tech at the forefront of integrating technology into artistic practices.
Festival highlights include live music on March 28 at Tech Green, poetry sharing on April 3 at Ferst Center for the Arts, DramaTech's presentation of "Spring Awakening" starting April 4 at Dean James E. Dull Theater, an artistic talents showcase on April 7 at Ferst Center Lobby, interactive activities on April 15 at Arts Plaza and Tech Green, and a closing block party on April 18 at Arts Plaza.
