The Atlanta Falcons have placed kicker Younghoe Koo on injured reserve, as announced by the team. In response, they signed Riley Patterson to their active roster and released Tanner Brown from the practice squad.

This decision follows a report by Falcons head coach Raheem Morris after their recent win against the Las Vegas Raiders. Koo had informed the coaching staff that he "kind of hurt himself a little bit." Although not listed on the injury report for Week 15, Koo had been noted in Week 13 due to a right hip issue.

"Our guys have always put ourselves in position to get people in here," said Morris. "We've had a couple kickers over the last couple of weeks since he was on the injury report a couple of weeks ago. So, we've always been pretty precautionary when it comes to Younghoe Koo, when it comes to those things."

Patterson was initially signed to the Falcons' practice squad on November 29 and was elevated for their Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Chargers but did not play. During that game, Koo attempted three field goals, making two.

Due to NFL rules requiring players on injured reserve to miss at least four games and with only three regular-season games remaining, Koo's season has concluded. He finished this season with a success rate of 73.5% for field goals made, marking his lowest performance since joining the team in 2019.

Koo experienced highs and lows this year, including making a personal-best 58-yard field goal against Tampa Bay Buccaneers and missing three attempts against New Orleans Saints.

"He's hitting the ball well," stated Falcons special teams coordinator Marquice Williams earlier this month. "I'm not going to – we're not going to – make excuses about injuries or anything like that. If he's out there, that's his job."

Now tasked with taking over is Patterson, who has played in 41 games for four different teams since 2021. His career field goal success rate stands at 88.1%, with his longest being a 53-yarder.

This season, Patterson has participated in two games but hasn't attempted any field goals yet; however, he successfully converted all four point-after attempts.

The Falcons will face off against the New York Giants at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday.
