Blake Ragsdale Van Leer was born on August 16, 1893. He pursued a career in engineering and academia, eventually becoming a respected university professor. In 1944, Van Leer was appointed the fifth president of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Under his leadership, Georgia Tech experienced significant growth and development. He expanded academic programs and improved facilities. Van Leer also promoted the integration of women and African Americans into the institution, pushing for diversity and inclusion.

During his tenure, Van Leer made substantial contributions to Georgia Tech and the Atlanta community. He worked to enhance the university’s reputation as a leading technological institution. His efforts included fostering relationships with industry leaders and securing funding for research and development.
