Sharlotte Kathleen Neely was born on Friday, August 13, 1948, in Savannah, Georgia. Raised with a curiosity for anthropology, she pursued higher education, earning a Ph.D. and specializing in Native North American studies, particularly focusing on the Cherokee Indians. Neely's academic career flourished, marked by extensive research contributions and publications that deepened understanding of indigenous cultures. She joined Northern Kentucky University's faculty and eventually attained the title of Professor Emerita of Anthropology by 2017.
