The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for a crucial offseason as the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine begins in Indianapolis. The event runs from Monday through Sunday, followed by the start of the new league year and free agency ten days later. As rookie and returning players determine their future teams, the Falcons have identified three key areas of need.

Improving the pass rush is a top priority for Atlanta, which ranked second to last in sacks with 31 last season. Despite a late-season improvement, the team finished with an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs. Key players like Matthew Judon, Lorenzo Carter, and James Smith-Williams are set to enter free agency. Judon had 5.5 sacks last season but did not meet expectations after being traded to Atlanta.

In terms of returning players, Arnold Ebiketie led all Atlanta defenders with six sacks last season and could see an increased role this year. DeAngelo Malone also showed potential with two sacks against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The defensive backfield is another area needing attention as several players may leave in free agency. The Falcons' passing defense ranked No. 22 last season, allowing an average of 224.5 yards per game and giving up 34 passing touchdowns.

Cornerback A.J. Terrell will return after signing a four-year extension, but Mike Hughes is set to become a free agent. Clark Phillips III and Natrone Brooks are potential internal options to partner with Terrell.

At safety, Justin Simmons joined Jessie Bates III last preseason but did not meet expectations despite recording 62 tackles and two interceptions in 16 starts. Richie Grant is headed for free agency while DeMarcco Hellams should be healthy after recovering from a season-ending injury.

Finally, continuity on the offensive line is uncertain due to center Drew Dalman's expiring rookie contract. Dalman missed half of last season due to injury, with Ryan Neuzil stepping in during his absence; however, Neuzil is also approaching free agency.

The rest of Atlanta's offense remains stable with Michael Penix Jr., Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allgeier, Drake London, Darnell Mooney, Kyle Pitts, and Charlie Woerner all under contract for next season.
