Atlanta United 2 has announced the addition of two new defenders to their roster for the upcoming 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. The team signed Nyk Sessock, who brings experience from MLS NEXT Pro, and Ronan Wynne, selected by Atlanta United in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. Both players have committed to ATL UTD 2 for the season with an option for extension into 2026.
Nyk Sessock, aged 24, developed his skills at the Philadelphia Union youth academy before playing two seasons at the University of Pittsburgh. He then transferred to Indiana University in 2020, where he played three seasons. During his time as a Hoosier, Sessock started in most games and contributed to significant achievements including a Big Ten Regular Season Championship and Tournament Championship in 2020, along with NCAA National Championship appearances in both 2020 and 2022. Prior to joining Atlanta United 2, Sessock was part of Inter Miami II for two seasons where he scored twice and assisted eleven times over 27 matches.
Ronan Wynne joins after being picked No. 53 overall by Atlanta United during this year's MLS SuperDraft. At age 23, Wynne is recognized as a strong defensive player having been named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year twice while at the University of Denver. Throughout his college career, he played nearly every game out of seventy total matches and helped secure multiple league championships. Notably, Wynne aided Denver's advancement to the NCAA College Cup in 2024 for their first appearance in eight years. Internationally eligible for New Zealand, Wynne served as a reserve on their U-23 national team during the Paris Olympics last year.
The team's regular season will commence on March 7 against New York Red Bulls II at Fifth Third Stadium located in Kennesaw, Georgia.
