The Atlanta Falcons entered the 2024 NFL season with high expectations, buoyed by significant offseason changes and an optimistic outlook from both fans and analysts. As the season began, starting quarterback Kirk Cousins addressed the media, emphasizing the importance of turning perception into reality. "I'm very aware of the fact that perception — right now — is that our offense is going to be really, really great," Cousins stated. He added, "I care about reality and making sure that that's actually what it is this fall."

Despite these ambitions, the Falcons' season concluded with a disappointing overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers on January 5, 2025. Head coach Raheem Morris reflected on this outcome: "We have to be honest with ourselves," he said. "That was not good enough."

The team's offseason had been marked by several key acquisitions and changes, including a new coaching staff and notable player signings. Optimism was high as predictions favored Atlanta to win the NFC South. However, those expectations did not materialize as anticipated.

As the season progressed, Atlanta held a promising position in their division but faltered in its final stretch, losing six of their last eight games. The result was an 8-9 record and a second-place finish in the NFC South—far short of preseason hopes.

Coach Morris remains focused on future improvements: "I don't worry about the growth mindset because we have plenty of time to go back and get it right." Despite acknowledging disappointment at season's end, he expressed confidence in his team's ability to address shortcomings moving forward.

For now, though, Atlanta must grapple with unmet expectations for 2024—a reality far removed from early perceptions.
