The Atlanta Falcons have placed rookie running back Jase McClellan on injured reserve, the team announced. McClellan has been struggling with a knee injury, which first appeared on the injury report in Week 13 ahead of the Falcons' December 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Initially limited in practice on November 28, he did not participate afterward and was ruled out for games against both the Chargers and Minnesota Vikings.
According to NFL rules, players on injured reserve must miss at least four games. As a result, McClellan will be unavailable for the remainder of the Falcons' regular season. The team selected McClellan in the sixth round from the University of Alabama. During his time with the team, he played in two games with 19 offensive snaps and eight special teams snaps. His contributions included five carries for 17 yards against Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 and eight carries for 15 yards against Denver Broncos in Week 11.
In response to McClellan's placement on injured reserve, the Falcons signed Carlos Washington Jr. from their practice squad to join the active roster. Washington is entering his second season with Atlanta after spending last year on their practice squad as an undrafted free agent from Southeastern Louisiana University. Although he has yet to play an active snap in an NFL game, Washington participated in all three preseason games this year, amassing 29 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown.
These changes occur as the Falcons prepare for their Week 15 game against Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.
