Atlanta Falcons have released wide receiver Cameron Batson following his recent arrest after an altercation with police and fleeing the scene of the incident.

While a spokesperson the Falcons told ESPN they are taking "this matter seriously," they said they are working to get more information from low enforcement, according to a Jan. 2 FOX 5 Atlanta report

"The Atlanta Falcons have released wide receiver Cameron Batson from the practice squad. With the release of Batson, the Falcons currently have 15 players on the practice squad," the Falcons told FOX 5 Atlanta.

Atlanta police said they took Batson into custody for driving under the influence and leading them on a chase, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The incident began with an officer saying he saw Batson speeding and failing to stay in his lane in a pickup truck. This prompted the officer to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 75 North at the Northside Drive exit.

During the stop, the officer said he determined Batson was intoxicated and tried to arrest him, sparking an altercation during which the officer said Batson violently resisted, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. The officer said Batson attempted to take the officer's gun at one point.

FOX 5 Atlanta continued to report the officer fired a shot, but no one was hit. Batson then allegedly managed to get back in his vehicle and flee the scene before crashing a short distance away. He then fled the scene on foot, but was discovered by police officers.

"Batson was charged with aggravated assault, battery, removal of a weapon from a public official and driving-fleeting to elude a police officer," FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

During his initial court appearance, a Fulton County judge set Batson's bond at $95,000 and established he would still be allowed to travel with the team for work before team officials announced they had severed all ties with him, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
