Dade County High School teacher Catherine Turner was arrested recently after mistakenly bringing an unloaded revolver and ammunition to her Georgia classroom, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.

The forensics teacher was taken into custody earlier this month at her high school just one day after the unloaded gun was discovered in her classroom, the report states. At that time, the Dade County Sheriff’s Office said the gun had been found alongside 10 rounds of ammunition locked inside a gun case under a bookshelf in Turner’s classroom.

"Nothing found during the investigation indicated that there was ever a threat to any Dade County Student or Employee," FOX 5 reports the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement.

Upon her arrest, Turner was booked into the Dade County Jail, FOX 5 reports.

Among comments, FOX 5 reports Turner told police she brought the weapon to school by mistake. The teacher’s attorney told WDEF Turner mistakenly believed it to be a container of art supplies and took it to school along with some cardboard boxes full of items for her classroom.

The school resource officer took the gun into evidence, FOX 5 states, and no additional weapons were found. At that time, Turner’s attorney said the forensics teacher was the one to notify officials about the gun, calling her arrest a “gross overreaction.”
