The Atlanta Hawks are set to team up with non-profit organization Silence the Shame to fight mental health stigma, reduce health disparities and reduce suicide rates among the most vulnerable.
Hawks Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility Andrea Carter said the hope of the collaboration is for young people to help themselves, support others and make healthy decisions, according to a March 9 NBA press release.
“We are proud to team up with Silence the Shame for a series of activities that continue conversations surrounding mental health,” Carter said in the release.
The Hawks and Silence the Shame will collaborate with Clayton County Public Schools, Skyland Trail, and other community organizations to help normalize mental wellness conversations and erase the stigma around mental health challenges, according to the release.
All-Star guard Trae Young and five-time Grammy award-nominated singer and songwriter Chlöe participated in a Teen Mental Wellness Courtside Chat where they spoke about their own experiences, the release stated.
The campaign is set to continue March 20 as the Hawks host a community conversation entitled, “Sports, Entertainment and Mental Wellness” during their home game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
A special package will be available that includes a ticket to the game, admission to the pre-game event and a limited-edition Hawks and Silence the Shame co-branded shirt, the release stated. Each ticket package purchased will result in a donation to Silence the Shame.
