The Georgia Tech Yellowjackets women’s basketball team will enter their 2021-2022 campaign in the middle of the pack of the Associated Press preseason poll.

An Oct. 19 school-issued press release said the wire service ranked Tech No. 17 in its preseason top 25, making it the third time for the Yellowjackets.

"Coming off a historic season, ranking marks third time in program history the Yellow Jackets have been ranked in the nation’s preseason top 25," the university said in the release.

Tech is among the quintet of Atlantic Coast Conference programs to receive rankings from the AP.

The last time the Yellowjackets appeared on the list was ahead of the 2012-2013 season.

Head coach Nell Fortner’s program will have the benefit of experience and depth thanks to a stable of ten returnees from last year’s Sweet Sixteen team, the release said.

Five-foot-nine Finnish guard Lotta-Maj Lahtinen, who scored 15 points per game; guard Kierra Fletcher, a three-time entrant on the All-Academic Team; and Italian forward Lorela Cubaj, the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s 2021 Women’s College Player of the Year, headline the batch.

According to the school, the team is slated to play 17 home games, including a Dec. 9 tilt against No. 2 UConn.
