Georgia State named among 'trailblazing institutions' for innovation

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute of Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business won the Excellence in Student Engagement in Entrepreneurship Award at the 10th annual Deshpande Symposium for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Higher Education.

The award distinguishes institutions that harbor student leadership and engagement and promote entrepreneurial cognizance, skills, and training, GSU said in a release.

“The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute and Georgia State are committed to growing a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation across the university,” Jackie Davis, associate director of the institute, said. “We are building a model for inclusive entrepreneurship with an ecosystem of innovative programs and resources to advance new and diverse entrepreneurs. Georgia State is honored to receive the Excellence in Student Engagement in Entrepreneurship Award and to be among the trailblazing institutions recognized at this year’s symposium.”

GSU said the award is the third honor the institute received in less than two months. It was the only entrepreneurship center presented with two awards at the 35th annual International Conference on Business Incubation held in April, winning the Entrepreneurship Center of the Year Award: Sector Focused Category and Specialty Award for Most Innovative Program for the Main Street Entrepreneurs Seed Fund, GSU said.

The institute aspires to become a national model for inclusive entrepreneurial education and innovation, the GSU reported.

The symposium was presented by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the Deshpande Foundation and the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, the university said.
