Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta witnessed a heartwarming scene as dozens of Atlanta United supporters gathered to welcome back Miguel Almirón. Fans, equipped with signs and jerseys, celebrated the midfielder's return after Atlanta United announced his rejoining on a designated player deal through 2027, with an option for 2028.

Almirón expressed his gratitude at a press conference, recalling the airport reception: “What I missed most was the affection of the fans,” he said. “It had been a long time since I had felt a feeling like that.”

Since his initial arrival in 2016, Almirón has maintained a strong connection with Atlanta. Reflecting on this bond, he stated, “I’m always very grateful for the fans in Atlanta – not just for last night but from when I arrived the first time.”

After leaving Atlanta in 2019 to join Newcastle United in the English Premier League, Almirón fulfilled his childhood dream of playing in Europe. He acknowledged that this experience contributed significantly to his growth: “I think I’ve grown as a player and also as a person.”

Despite changes within Atlanta United since his departure post-2018 MLS Cup victory, Almirón believes the club's core identity remains unchanged. He is motivated to contribute positively to the team’s success: “Atlanta is a club that always deserves to be fighting for important things,” he remarked.

The idea of returning to Atlanta was always present during his time abroad. Now older and more experienced, Almirón emphasized his commitment: "I'm still the same Miguel – the same will to compete, the same will to win – but now I'm going to have to work doubly as hard."
