Kirk Cousins is facing one of the toughest stretches in his career as the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback. Despite not throwing a touchdown pass in three games and recording six interceptions, support for Cousins within the organization remains steadfast.
Head coach Raheem Morris expressed confidence in Cousins' ability to recover from poor performances, stating, "Kirk's ready to go. Obviously, a tough game and all those type of things, but he's been through a lot in his career." Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson echoed this sentiment, noting Cousins' resilience through highs and lows: "You don't want those games to happen... But Kirk's going to keep swinging."
Cousins’ backup, Michael Penix Jr., also showed faith in him: "He knows that wasn't him and he knows that he can be better — and he's gonna be better." This belief stems from Cousins’ history of overcoming adversity throughout his career.
From high school setbacks due to injury to challenges at Michigan State and early professional hurdles with Washington, Cousins has consistently found ways to rebound. His memorable comeback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015 is often cited as a testament to his tenacity.
Cousins acknowledges the repetitive nature of having to bounce back but embraces it as part of his journey. "It's just kind of been a deal in this league... it's always kicked you down, but you've got to find a way to get back up," he said.
As the Falcons endure a three-game losing streak with postseason aspirations still alive, they are relying on Cousins once more. He remains committed: "At some point they'll tell you that, 'Hey, you're not going to get another chance.' But until then, I'm going to keep trying."
With critical games ahead and division hopes on the line, Atlanta looks toward Cousins' leadership and experience for resurgence.
