Atlanta United has announced its roster decisions as the team prepares for the 2025 MLS season. The club confirmed that 18 players are already under contract for the upcoming season, and it has exercised contract options on four additional players. Discussions are ongoing with three other players regarding their potential return.
The players whose contract options were exercised include goalkeeper Brad Guzan, defender Efraín Morales, and midfielders Jay Fortune and Santiago Sosa.
The club declined to exercise options on six players: Erik Centeno, Nick Firmino, Ronald Hernández, Franco Ibarra, Jamal Thiaré, and Tyler Wolff. Negotiations continue with Hernández, Thiaré, and Wolff. All these players will be eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft except for Wolff, who will go on waivers.
Forward Daniel Ríos's loan will conclude at the end of this year. Midfielder Dax McCarty is retiring after a long 19-year career in MLS. Goalkeeper Quentin Westberg is also retiring after six years in the league.
The MLS offseason activities begin on Monday, December 9th with a half-day trade window starting at 9:00 a.m. The MLS Expansion Draft is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11th as San Diego FC joins the league next season. Free Agency and End-of-Year Waivers commence on December 12th followed by Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Process on December 13th.
