A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the University System of Georgia on November 15, 2024, by ATL Standard, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request was made under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., and it specifically asked for detailed employee information for the year 2023. The data points requested include employees' first and last names, institution names, positions, departments, pay rates, and year-to-date gross pay.
As a media organization, we at ATL Standard are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as a media professional we are eligible for a fee waiver.
