Center back Stian Gregersen scored his first two goals for Atlanta United in a professional career milestone, leading the team to a 2-1 victory over defending MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Both goals came in the second half, marking Atlanta United's first come-from-behind win of the season.

The victory concludes a two-match home stand for Atlanta United with four points as they head into the Leagues Cup break. Earlier in the week, they played New York City FC to a draw.

“I think they could feel the moment," said interim head coach Rob Valentino. "They dug in and they did the work to get a result. It’s the first time we’ve come back down a goal and won the game, so that’s a real positive.”

Atlanta United started aggressively, with Brooks Lennon serving an early ball into the box that Bartosz Slisz headed on target but failed to challenge Columbus goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen. Columbus responded with Cucho's long-range shot in the third minute, which sailed over the goal.

Despite several early opportunities created by well-placed long passes from players like Lennon and Gregersen, Atlanta struggled to find an opening goal. A collision between Thiaré and Hagen inside the box drew attention but was ultimately called offside.

Columbus capitalized on their chances in the 36th minute when Alexandru Matan's shot rebounded off Brad Guzan to Diego Rossi, who scored to give Columbus a 1-0 lead.

"We knew coming into a game like this against Columbus that they would be really good on the ball," Valentino said. "The big point of emphasis was being disciplined."

Gregersen equalized for Atlanta United in the 60th minute with a header from Saba Lobjanidze's corner kick—his first career MLS goal and Atlanta's first corner kick goal of the season. Gregersen then secured victory with another header from Lobjanidze’s corner kick in the 76th minute.

"I had a long week," Gregersen said after missing Wednesday's match due to suspension. "Scoring two goals in one game, I've never done that before."

Lobjanidze assisted both goals, bringing his season total to seven assists.

This match marks Atlanta United's last regular-season game until August 24. The team prepares for upcoming Leagues Cup matches against D.C. United on July 26 and Santos Laguna on August 4.

“The collective work rate together was really good," Valentino remarked post-match. "They’ve shown me that they can do it. Now, I’m going to demand it every game.”
