Nick Firmino got Atlanta on the board in the 70th after Alan Carleton floated a well-placed cross to the back post for Firmino to send a header past the keeper's hands.

ATL UTD 2 built on its lead late in the match after Carleton intercepted a pass above Atlanta’s box before carrying the ball on the counterattack and laying off a pass for Karim Tmimi at the top of the opposing 18-yard box, who got off a shot that nutmegged his defender and keeper to take a 2-1 lead in the 88th minute. Orlando equalized in the 95th minute after Favian Loyola dribbled past his defender outside the box before taking a shot just outside the penalty area, which rolled just past Cohen's reach into the bottom right corner of goal.

The two sides traded successful conversions in the penalty shootout for an extra point before Carleton had his shot saved after aiming for the lower right corner.
