State Representative Sharon Henderson (D-Covington) is set to hold a press conference tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the South Wing of the State Capitol to discuss House Bill 384. In anticipation of Governor Kemp signing the legislation, Rep. Henderson expressed her gratitude, stating, “As a Democratic legislator, I am honored to have Governor Kemp sign my bill into law. This bill is close to my heart as I was diagnosed this past year with an early form of breast cancer. Due to early detection, I am now cancer-free.”

Rep. Henderson emphasized the importance of early detection in saving lives, sharing, “I am so proud to say that by providing PSA prostate-specific antigen tests reminders, we can encourage men in Georgia to schedule their annual screenings and hopefully detect prostate cancer earlier and help more men get the care they need to save lives.”

The newly passed HB 384 mandates that insurance companies must send annual notices to male clients starting at age 45 to undergo a prostate-specific antigen test. Governor Kemp, in a move to bolster Georgia’s healthcare system, signed Rep. Henderson’s legislation alongside other bills.

This marks Rep. Henderson’s second term in the Georgia House of Representatives, with HB 384 being her second piece of legislation to receive final passage and be signed into law by Governor Kemp since taking office in 2020.

The press conference will provide an opportunity for Rep. Sharon Henderson to elaborate on the significance of HB 384 in promoting early detection for prostate cancer in Georgia.
