City of Atlanta to Open Warming Center Ahead of Cold Weather

ATLANTA—The City of Atlanta is taking proactive measures to provide assistance to residents ahead of colder temperatures. In an announcement, the city revealed plans to open two warming centers to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals during the upcoming cold weather.

According to the information released, the first warming center will be designated for men and will be situated at the Central Park Recreation Center at 400 Merritts Ave. NE, Atlanta 30308. The center is scheduled to open on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. and will operate until Tuesday, March 19 at 7:00 a.m.

Similarly, the second warming center will cater to women and children and will be established at the Selena Butler Recreation Center at 98 Wm Holmes Borders Dr. SE, Atlanta, GA 30312. This center will also commence operations on the same dates and timings as the first center.

In a statement regarding the warming centers, it was specified that transportation services will be provided by Fulton County from the Gateway Center at 8:00 pm, with return transportation available upon deactivation of the centers. It was also noted that the activation times of the centers are subject to change based on the updated National Weather Service forecast.

As the city gears up to face colder weather conditions, the opening of these warming centers stands as a testament to Atlanta's commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of all its residents, especially during challenging weather situations.
