Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD) has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Phase I of the Thomasville Heights redevelopment project in southeast Atlanta. The project, led by Mayor Andre Dickens and AUD, aims to provide family housing with a mix of rental and homeownership units, including affordable and market-rate options.

Mayor Dickens expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Launching this RFQ process is another step toward restoring Thomasville Heights back to the community it was always meant to be.” He emphasized the importance of bringing affordability and equity to Southeast Atlanta and creating a vibrant area for residents.

The RFQ, which was released on March 14, 2024, on the AUD website, invites development partners to submit their qualifications by May 1, 2024. AUD CEO John Majors highlighted the significance of the Thomasville Heights development opportunity, stating, “This project is a wonderful step toward fulfilling the vision for the future set forth by the residents of the Thomasville Heights community.”

The redevelopment initiative is part of a larger neighborhood revitalization effort supported by various organizations, including the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Atlanta Housing, MARTA, and Atlanta Public Schools. Once the RFQ evaluation process is complete, AUD will select respondents to execute the City’s vision for the project.

The Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD) was established to address the affordable housing needs in the city, with a goal to build or preserve 20,000 units of affordable housing by 2029. AUD works collaboratively with private-sector developers and public-sector agencies to create mixed-income housing developments that prioritize long-term affordability and public control of assets.

The Thomasville Heights redevelopment project represents a significant opportunity to enhance housing options in Southeast Atlanta and contribute to the overall goal of creating stable and affordable homes for all Atlantans.
