Atlanta has received a historic grant under the Biden-Harris Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, with the funding set to kickstart the construction of a transformative project known as The Stitch. The $157,645,161 Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant will support the development of a 14-acre greenspace over Interstates 75 and 85, aiming to reconnect Downtown and Midtown Atlanta which were previously divided by the highway system.

Mayor Andre Dickens expressed gratitude for the support received from various parties, stating, "Today’s monumental announcement is why effective representation in Washington D.C. matters." He credited Senators Ossoff and Warnock, Congresswoman Williams, and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for their roles in securing the massive investment for Atlanta. Dickens highlighted the importance of collaboration in projects like The Stitch, which will unite communities and propel Atlanta forward.

A.J. Robinson, President of Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, acknowledged the dedication of implementation partners to The Stitch, including Mayor Andre Dickens, Executive Director Anna Roach, Commissioner Russell McMurry, and General Manager Collie Greenwood. Robinson emphasized the significance of these partnerships in realizing the vision of The Stitch.

Jack Cebe, Stitch Development Manager, expressed joy at seeing the long-awaited dream of the Downtown Atlanta community coming to fruition, thanks to the funding authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Cebe highlighted the transformative impact The Stitch will have on Downtown Atlanta, bringing together various elements such as transportation improvements, sustainable infrastructure, and increased affordable housing.

In addition to The Stitch project, federal funding of $50 million will be allocated to the Atlanta Beltline to Flint River Trail, aiming to enhance connectivity in Atlanta's south side communities and promote economic growth in the area.

The Stitch project represents a vision to revitalize Downtown Atlanta, addressing the historic division caused by the construction of Interstates 75/85. It is a significant step towards reuniting communities, improving transportation networks, and creating a more cohesive urban environment in the heart of Atlanta.
