The NBA has announced that fans can begin voting in the 2021-22 NBA Cares Community Assist Award until May 14.
According to a news release, the winner will be selected from votes accumulated from fans and an executive NBA panel, with the winner announced sometime during the NBA playoffs.
The Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young is one of the candidates, along with Bismack Biyombo of the Phoenix Suns, Robert Covington of the L.A. Clippers, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, Tobias Harris of the Philadelphia 76ers, Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies, Brook Lopez of the Milwaukee Bucks, Gary Payton II of the Golden State Warriors, Ricky Rubio of the Indiana Pacers and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The award is a tribute to former San Antonio Spurs’ player David Robinson, who was an advocate for community improvement, according to the release.
The NBA reports that the award will continue to highlight players who have had a positive impact in their communities with the recipient expected to get $75,000 from the league and Kaiser Permanente for a charity of their choice.
According to the release, the 10 players up for the award involve three players picked from the NBA for their advocacy, along with the offseason winner and the six monthly winners.
