A 60-year-old Dade County High School teacher was arrested recently after an unloaded gun was found in her classroom.

Catherine Turner of Ringgold was arrested at the high school she worked at, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Her arrest came one day after the school resource officer was alerted about an unattended firearm in the classroom. The Dade County Sheriff's Office said the gun was not loaded, but 10 rounds of ammo were packed along with the gun in a case. No other weapons were found, and the school resource officer secured the gun.

"Nothing found during the investigation indicated that there was ever a threat," the Dade County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Turner's attorney, McKracken Poston, said the teacher believed the container she brought to the school was full of art supplies, WDEF reported. Poston said Turner's arrest was "a gross overreaction" since she was the one who told the resource officer about the weapon.

Turner, a forensics teacher, was taken into the Dade County Jail following her arrest, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
