The Atlanta Falcons have signed Marcus Mariota as Matt Ryan's replacement, reuniting him with Coach Arthur Smith.
The Falcons have reportedly been connected to Mariota for some time, according to a report on the Falcons website.
Smith was Mariota’s offensive coordinator in 2019 while the two were with the Tennessee Titans, the report stated.
"Art has been steady support since I've gotten into the league," Mariota told TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt upon Smith’s promotion in 2019. “It's been a true blessing to have gotten to know him and I'm excited to work with him. His ability to consistently get our guy’s prepared week in and week out has been impressive. I'm looking forward to working with him in his new role."
As the starting quarterback for the Titans, Mariota threw for 12,000 yards, 69 touchdowns and had a 63.2 completion percentage along with 42 interceptions, the report stated.
Over the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, Mariota played in 11 games, completing 30 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown, according to the report.
With the familiarity between Mariota and Smith, it could be a safe bet that Mariota will be the Falcons starting quarterback in 2022, the report stated.
