Georgia Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 19.

The Georgia Chamber annual Eggs and Issues event, presented by AT&T, Amazon, Atlanta Gas Light, Chick-fil-A, Delta Air Lines, Inc., and Georgia Power was held at the Fox Theater on January 12th. It was attended by more than 2,000 business and community leaders live and virtually from across the state. Governor Brian Kemp, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, Speaker David Ralston, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Georgia Chamber President and CEO Chris Clark and newly appointed 2022 Board Chair and President of Sandersville Railroad Company Ben Tarbutton, III led the line-up of speakers delivering insights and an annual outlook for the state.

Governor Brian Kemp in his remarks announced his administration’s plans to provide a $1.6 billion tax refund to all Georgia taxpayers.

“At the state-level, that success has meant record revenues, and as Governor, I believe we should continue to fund our priorities as a state – education, healthcare, and public safety…but also be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said Governor Kemp.

That is why my Amended FY22 budget proposal authorizes the Department of Revenue to provide $1.6 billion in refunds to every taxpayer in Georgia. Under my plan, every citizen filing their income taxes this April will receive a refund credit ranging from $250 for single filers to $500 for joint filers. As Georgians seek to recover from the economic impact of a global pandemic, we as state leaders should do everything, we can to empower families to keep more of their money in their own wallets.”

Georgia’s leaders were not the only newsmakers that day, the Chamber unveiled its War For Talent report, its new Hub Chamber Council, and introduced the organization’s 2022 Executive Committee comprised of top executives from industries important to Georgia’s economic growth.

“I’m excited about the year ahead. My company has been a passionate member of this chamber for over 70 years because we know this organization cares about creating jobs in every corner of this state, addressing issues that matter and supporting our local chamber partners,” said Ben Tarbutton, 2022 Chairman of the Board.

Chris Clark, President and CEO of the Georgia Chamber added, “It will be a busy and consequential year for this state and this Chamber. To that end we will continue our focus on the New Georgia Economy and how to prepare for the opportunities and challenges that arise in a rapidly changing world.”

Photos from the event are available for viewing now and segments of the Georgia Chamber Eggs and Issues program will be available on both the Chamber’s YouTube Channel and Podcast in the coming days.
