Georgia Tech freshman long jumper Cameron O'Neal has earned Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Men's Freshmen of the Year honors.
The fourth men's track and field star to gain such distinction in program history, O'Neal is the first to receive the award since the 2002, when Brian Ford walked away with the honor, Georgia Tech reported in a release.
"We are all very proud of Cameron for this great honor," head men's track and field coach Grover Hinsdale said in the release. "He had an outstanding indoor season and I feel he is the most deserving. Coach Page did a great job in bringing him along."
Over the course of the 2021 indoor season, O'Neal bagged second team all-American honors in the long jump, finishing 16th in the event at the NCAA Division I National Championships in mid-March, Georgia Tech reported. O'Neal also leapt for a distance of 25-2 1/2 ″ at the ACC Indoor Championships to finish third in his first collegiate career postseason, winning first team all-ACC honors.
Overall, O'Neal made podium in the long jump competition three times over the course of the regular season, Georgia Tech reported.
