Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young captured his fourth career Player of the Week honor and his first in 2021-2022 for his performances in games played Nov. 22-28, according to NBA.com.
"Young recorded back-to-back 30+ point, 10+ assist outings on Nov. 24 and Nov. 26, becoming the first player in the NBA this season to notch two consecutive 30-or-more point, 10-or-more assist double-double," NBA.com said.
Young, a 6-1 guard, averaged 31.3 points on 45 of 80 shooting (56.25%) from the field over a four-game stretch where the Hawks were 3-1. Young made 15 of 29 shots (51.7%) from behind the 3-point line during those four games. He also averaged 8.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. He maintained his excellent free-throwing shooting by making 83.3% from the line.
Young was a no-brainer for the award after scoring 30-or-more points in all four games, while also leading the team in scoring and assists, according to NBA.com.
In the midst of just his fourth NBA season, Young has scored 30 or more points with 10-plus assists – referred to as a double-double – in 35 games, tying with Boston Celtics great Larry Bird for 15th most all-time in NBA history. He has collected nine points-assists double-doubles this season, which is tied for the most in the NBA.
The team is 5-3 in its last eight games. The Hawks had a seven-game winning streak before a Nov. 27 defeat, the release said, marking longest winning streak in the Eastern Conference and the second-longest in the league at the time.
