The Atlanta Falcons have promoted veteran punter Dustin Colquitt from the practice squad to the active, 53-man roster.
Colquitt’s promotion comes in the wake of regular punter Cam Nizialek being sidelined by a hamstring injury he suffered in a Week 4, 34-30 home loss against the Washington Football Team, according to a press release from the team.
A two-time Pro Bowler over the course of his 17-year career, most of which was spent with the Kansas City Chiefs, Colquitt signed with the Falcons following a Week 2, 48-25 loss against the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers where Nizialek struggled.
Team officials said it’s unclear how long Nizialek will be out, casting the 39-year-old Colquitt in the primary role of team kicker. It’s uncertain if Colquitt will also handle kickoffs as Nizialek did, given his limited experience in that area, the release said.
