Atlanta United's current season is not unfolding as expected. The team is just shy of a .500 record, positioning them in the middle of the Eastern Conference table. Following a three-match homestand that yielded only four points, the team prepares for two challenging away matches.

Miguel Almirón, a high-profile player for Atlanta United, stresses the importance of defensive strength beginning with the attack. "The season is very long, and we’re working on those things," Almirón remarked during media availability. Despite the ambition, head coach Ronny Deila acknowledges the frustration accompanying the team's recent performance, particularly the lack of goals in a 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution.

Deila has been vocal about the team needing to be more assertive and cohesive. Reflecting on this, he noted, “There’s no way it goes like this all the time. ... It’s now about keeping us together.” He emphasizes the necessity of clicking as a unit, wanting players to feel ownership of Atlanta United’s attack-minded style.

As Matchday 9 approaches, Deila points out the importance of converting chances into goals, stating, “You don’t win anything to defend. You need to attack.” The squad ranks tenth in MLS in expected goals and ninth in shots taken, underscoring the need for better finishing.

Deila's focus is on midfielders and wingers. He desires midfielders with work ethic and ball-winning ability, helping the team's playmakers like Alexey Miranchuk and Miguel Almirón excel. He asks wingers to score goals and be effective. “It’s many good players. It’s about who clicks best together. That’s the main thing,” Deila explained.

Almirón, shifting between the wing and central roles, remains a vital club figure. He acknowledges the need for mutual support within the squad. "I have to get the best out of my teammates, and my teammates have to get the best out of me," said Almirón.

Atlanta United faces upcoming challenges with away matches against Philadelphia Union and Orlando City SC. These games are crucial in maintaining the team's prospects of a top-four finish.

Deila advocates for resilience and unity, seen in his call for the squad to harness a fighting spirit in forthcoming matches. “We need a team that is standing together and put the team in front of themselves all the time,” Deila articulated.
