Ronald Hernández is set to return for Atlanta United in their upcoming match against FC Cincinnati on March 22. The Venezuelan player had been sidelined due to a quad injury but has now rejoined training and participated in contact drills.
In preparation for the game, Atlanta United signed three players from their secondary team, Atlanta United 2, to short-term agreements. Rodrigo Neri, Cooper Sanchez, and Nyk Sessock will accompany the main squad to Cincinnati. None of these players have yet played for the senior team.
Coach Deila mentioned that Hernández might be utilized in central defense due to absences from international call-ups. "There's a chance Hernández will be asked to play in central defense Saturday," said Deila. He elaborated on potential lineup changes by stating, "[Hernández] is back, and Matt [Edwards] also has an opportunity to play in there."
With other fullbacks like Pedro Amador and Brooks Lennon available, there could be more flexibility if they play as part of a back five formation.
Meanwhile, midfielder Mateusz Klich remains questionable due to a quad injury and may face a last-minute decision regarding his participation against Cincinnati. Forward Jamal Thiaré will not play because of ongoing recovery from his injury alongside Edwin Mosquera who recently sustained an ankle injury during the game against Inter Miami.
