The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) has announced that the Atlanta Dream and the Seattle Storm will play a regular-season game on August 15, 2025, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. This event marks the first time a regular-season WNBA game will be held outside of the United States.
The Atlanta Dream's recent season ended with their second consecutive playoff appearance. Their roster included notable players such as Rhyne Howard, Tina Charles, Allisha Gray, and Laeticia Amihere from Mississauga, Ontario. Meanwhile, the Seattle Storm completed their 25th anniversary season with their 19th playoff appearance. The team featured players like Nneka Ogwumike, Jewell Loyd, and Skylar Diggins-Smith.
In previous international appearances, the Dream played in Manchester against Great Britain's national team in 2011. The Storm participated in a preseason WNBA Canada Game in Edmonton earlier this year.
Further details about tickets and broadcast information for this historic game will be released soon. Fans interested in presale ticket access can register at WNBACanadaGame.com.
Following successful events in Toronto and Edmonton over the past two years, this game will be the fifth WNBA match played outside of U.S. borders. The league experienced significant growth last year with record-breaking digital consumption and merchandise sales. Viewership in Canada increased by 175% compared to 2023.
Toronto and Portland have been awarded new franchises that will begin competing in 2026.
Cathy Engelbert, WNBA Commissioner said: "The WNBA Canada Game has been a tremendous opportunity to grow our league’s footprint... As we prepare to establish permanent roots in Canada with a Toronto franchise."
Morgan Shaw Parker of Atlanta Dream commented: "This is a monumental moment for the WNBA... We look forward to showcasing our amazing athletes on a global stage."
Alisha Valavanis from Seattle Storm stated: "The WNBA Canada Game is an opportunity to showcase the WNBA... Playing in front of fans in Edmonton was a highlight of the season."
