The Atlanta Falcons, in collaboration with Truist, have initiated a weekly series aimed at introducing fans to the limited partners of the franchise. Over the course of 11 weeks, AtlantaFalcons.com will feature Q&A sessions with each of the 11 limited partners. These discussions will provide insights into business strategies, memorable moments related to the Falcons, and more.

This week's focus is on Derek Smith. Smith previously served as chairman and CEO of ChoicePoint Inc., a company known for its decision-making technology aimed at reducing fraud and mitigating risk. He is also the founder and chairman of GivingPoint, Inc., a nonprofit organization that encourages social entrepreneurship among young people.

Smith has recently launched another nonprofit initiative called the Game of Golf Institute (GOGI). This project aims to increase enjoyment and growth in golf through free educational resources targeted primarily at juniors, women, and underserved communities. Additionally, Smith serves on the boards of Geeknet and the Georgia Aquarium.

When asked about his reasons for becoming a limited partner with the Atlanta Falcons, Smith stated: "Ultimate camaraderie and competition. The Falcons organization, both on and off the field, are special, talented people. There's a unique bond that energizes Atlanta both in football excellence and community service."

Reflecting on his favorite memory related to the Falcons, Smith recounted an NFC Championship game against Green Bay where he honored a late friend by placing his jersey on the field: "Following our victory... participating in our NFC Championship celebration... was personally thrilling."

Smith expressed pride in his career achievements at ChoicePoint: "The fact our company... created a safer, more secure society through the responsible use of information."

Discussing his philanthropic interests, Smith mentioned: "My philanthropy is about 'humanity' dislocated in a technology-driven world," focusing on women, children, and disadvantaged groups.

He acknowledged Mike Kami and Ken Langone as significant influences: "Dr. Kami was considered...the top strategic thinker... Ken Langone...is an extraordinary capitalist... mentor..."

Finally, when naming his all-time favorite player, Smith chose Matt Ryan for his athletic excellence and leadership qualities.
