Jay Fortune has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday after scoring his first MLS goal in a crucial match against Charlotte FC. In the 55th minute, Fortune's long-range strike secured a 1-0 victory for Atlanta United, marking an important road win for the team.

Interim head coach Rob Valentino praised Fortune's performance, stating, "I think he’s got a bright future, he’s been progressing very well, pushing the guys in front of him and he earned himself a nice goal tonight. Honestly, the goal is the type of goal, and this is the type of team I’d like us to be."

MLS acknowledged Fortune's achievement by including him in their Team of the Matchday announced on Tuesday afternoon. This marks his first appearance on this list. He joins other Atlanta United players such as Brad Guzan, Saba Lobjanidze, Stian Gregersen, Jamal Thiaré, Caleb Wiley, and Giorgos Giakoumakis who have received this honor during the season.

Reflecting on his accomplishment, Fortune said, "It felt great, long time coming, I think. But I just had a feeling it was coming soon and no better place than in my home state. I was born in North Carolina; my parents were here so it was great to score in front of them."

Fortune's development has been evident throughout this season as he has gained more playing time due to injuries, international call-ups, and transfers within Atlanta United. Signed by Atlanta United on July 21, 2022, through a Homegrown contract valid until 2024 with additional option years available, Fortune made his debut with Trinidad and Tobago's national team in 2021 and joined Atlanta United Academy in 2018.

His professional journey began with Atlanta United 2 in July 2020 before making his MLS debut against Charlotte FC in 2023. During that season he made 14 appearances for the club and has already played 20 games this season.

Following their victory over Charlotte FC, Atlanta United currently holds ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 31 points. Their upcoming matches are scheduled at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against Nashville SC and Inter Miami FC.
