Atlanta United 2 defeated Chattanooga FC in a 4-3 match on Sunday night at Finley Stadium. Four Atlanta players scored, with 17-year-old Ashton Gordon achieving his first professional goal and Karim Tmimi securing the match winner in the 99th minute.
The match began with Atlanta taking the lead in the 12th minute. Chattanooga attempted to build from a goal kick but turned over possession just outside their box. Javier Armas capitalized on this, passing to Alan Carleton who finished in the bottom left corner.
Chattanooga responded before halftime. In the 27th minute, Milo Garvanian leveled the match with a shot under keeper Jayden Hibbert. Just before halftime, Taylor Grey’s cross found Medhi Ouarmi, who scored from close range.
Early in the second half, Atlanta earned a penalty due to a handball by a Chattanooga defender. Armas converted calmly, sending his shot to the right side of the goal.
In the 62nd minute, Ronald Hernández tested Chattanooga's defense twice from distance but was denied both times. On the counterattack, Ouarmi set up Grey whose blocked shot was followed up by Ouarmi himself for a 3-2 lead.
Atlanta equalized in the 87th minute through Gordon. Carleton provided an assist, and Gordon controlled and finished with his left foot past Jean Antoine.
A scuffle during stoppage time resulted in three red cards for Chattanooga. When play resumed, Hernández crossed into the box for Tmimi who maneuvered through traffic to score and secure a 4-3 victory for Atlanta.
Atlanta United 2 (7-11-5) will conclude its road trip against NYCFC II on Friday, Sept. 6 at Belson Stadium.
