Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has taken a significant step towards enhancing transportation equity in the city by issuing an Administrative Order for the construction of MARTA infill stations and a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line. The announcement came during Mayor Dickens' third State of the City address, where he underscored the importance of aligning public investment with transportation equity to improve the quality of life for all Atlantans.

The Administrative Order identifies four locations for infill MARTA station investments: Krog Street/Hulsey Yard, Joseph E. Boone, Murphy Crossing, and Armour Yards. Mayor Dickens highlighted the need for strategic and equitable transportation investments to address the immediate needs of both legacy and emerging communities in Atlanta.

Mayor Dickens emphasized, "It is imperative that our transportation investments are strategically and equitably deployed to increase ridership on MARTA's heavy rail network and bus system fostering a more connected and unified Atlanta."

In addition to outlining the locations for the new stations, the Order also calls for community engagement efforts to ensure that the design of the infill stations aligns with the needs and characteristics of the respective neighborhoods. Furthermore, the Order directs the identification of funding sources and financial models for these transportation investments.

Moreover, the Administrative Order sets the stage for collaboration between the City of Atlanta, the Atlanta BeltLine, and MARTA to develop equitable transportation projects across the city. The plan includes the construction of a new heavy rail station at the Murphy Crossing redevelopment project and a BRT line to connect the Bowen Homes community with Ponce City Market.

As part of the initiative, Mayor Dickens has tasked MARTA, the Atlanta Beltline, and city staff with developing a comprehensive plan for transit options along the entire Beltline corridor. This move aims to create a more connected and accessible transportation network for residents throughout Atlanta.
