ATLANTA (Mar. 27, 2024) — On Tuesday, Mar. 26th, the Georgia Senate unanimously approved House Bill 808, a legislation aimed at reducing tax burdens on small businesses in the state. Sen. John Albers, who carried the bill in the Senate, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Small businesses are the lifeblood of the Georgia economy.”

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Mike Cheokas, received praise for its potential impact on businesses in Georgia. Cheokas highlighted the collaborative effort behind the bill's success, acknowledging the support of Shaw Blackmon and Sen. John Albers. Cheokas emphasized the significance of this measure in alleviating high taxes and regulations that can hinder business growth.

NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins also commended the bill, noting, “House Bill 808 raises the threshold for paying this onerous tax,” pointing out the financial relief it could provide to small business owners grappling with inflation and rising operational costs.

Senator Albers emphasized the importance of HB 808 in addressing the financial challenges faced by businesses, particularly in light of current economic conditions. He attributed these challenges to federal fiscal policies and underscored the need to support businesses in Georgia.

As the bill now awaits Governor Brian P. Kemp’s signature, it is poised to undergo further scrutiny from Georgia citizens in November. Given its implications for the State’s Constitution, the measure will require a constitutional amendment for enactment.

In conclusion, the passage of HB 808 reflects a collaborative effort to support small businesses in Georgia and ease their financial burdens. With key stakeholders expressing optimism about the bill's potential impact, its journey through the legislative process marks a significant step towards bolstering the state's business environment.
