ATLANTA (March 11, 2024) — Sen. Sonya Halpern, (D–Atlanta), will host the Fourth Annual HBCU Heritage Day press conference on Wednesday, March 13th at the Georgia State Capitol, North Steps, 206 Washington St., Atlanta, GA 30334. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The program will include a celebration of the impact and importance of Georgia's 10 HBCUs. Sen. Halpern will be joined by Governor Brian P. Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp, Lt. Governor Burt Jones, students, presidents of Georgia HBCUs, and Senators Derek Mallow (D–Savannah) and Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas). Together, they will discuss the vital role of HBCUs in the state and recognize their contributions to Georgia's communities.

In a statement, it was highlighted that, "This event is free and open to the public and will feature a short program celebrating the impact and importance of Georgia’s 10 HBCUs. Students, presidents of Georgia HBCUs, and Senators Derek Mallow (D–Savannah) and Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas) will join Sen. Halpern, Gov. Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp and Lt. Governor Burt Jones to discuss the immeasurable importance of HBCUs in the state and celebrate their contributions to Georgia’s communities."
