U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has expressed her strong opposition to the World Health Organization's (WHO) proposed World Pandemic Treaty for Disease X. She voiced concerns about various activities, including the creation of bio-weapon viruses. Her comments were made in response to discussions held at the World Economic Forum, where global leaders addressed the issue of future pandemics.
"I’m a hard NO on the WHO World Pandemic Treaty for Disease X," said Greene. She further elaborated, "And while we are at it, why don’t we tell all these other freaks to stop spraying stuff in our skies, stop messing with our food, and stop creating monster bio weapon viruses that will murder everyone."
The Independent reported that world leaders convened in a session titled "Preparing for Disease X," led by WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The session aimed to discuss novel strategies for healthcare system preparedness for a potentially more deadly pandemic than COVID-19. Dr. Thomas Russo, an infectious diseases scientist, highlighted the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and underscored potential mutations originating from human-animal contact.

Newsmax reported that U.S. Representative Lori Trahan (D-MA) introduced the "Disease X Act of 2023" in June 2023. The bill seeks to enhance the focus of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) on viral threats capable of causing pandemics. It broadens BARDA's scope of grants and contracts to support research and development of manufacturing technology for medical countermeasures against viruses with pandemic potential.
According to CBS News, Ghebreyesus revealed that the WHO has launched initiatives in partnership with other global organizations to prepare for future major pandemics or epidemics. These efforts include a pandemic fund to assist nations with resources, an mRNA vaccine technology transfer hub, and a hub for pandemic and epidemic intelligence to enhance collaborative surveillance among countries.
