Piedmont Atlanta Hospital opened an upgraded Labor & Delivery unit today in what is now the Grass Family Women’s Center. Patients and their loved ones will enjoy updated rooms that are designed to keep families together in a comfortable, state-of-the-art facility.
Patient rooms in the improved Labor & Delivery unit at Piedmont Atlanta are large, offer ample natural light, and include private bathrooms, the majority of which have bathtubs that can be used during labor.
“For a century, our Women’s Services staff at Piedmont Atlanta has provided expert, personalized care to women and their babies. We are excited to now have a facility that matches our quality of care,” said Kelly Hulsey, chief nursing officer at Piedmont Atlanta.
Feedback from patients and their doctors and nurses significantly informed design and amenity choices to ensure the best patient experience. For example, the layout of every patient room in the unit is the same so providers can quickly find what they need for patient care.
This renovation will enable Piedmont Atlanta to welcome 30% more women for deliveries than the hospital could previously accommodate.
“We are proud to open the Grass Family Women’s Center at Piedmont Atlanta, with the completion of the Labor & Delivery unit,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., chief executive officer of Piedmont Atlanta. “The opportunity to serve more Atlanta-area families at this special time in their lives is a privilege.”
Construction begins this month on an upgraded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that is expected to open next spring. When the Grass Family Women’s Center is complete in the fall of 2024, it will have its own floor at Piedmont Atlanta and a dedicated entrance.
