Georgia prosecutors recently informed Rudy Giuliani's legal team that he is a target in a Fulton County grand jury investigation.

The special purpose grand jury is looking into efforts by former President Donald Trump and his supporters to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

This news came days before Giuliani, Trump's former attorney, was set to appear before the Fulton County grand jury, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. He was previously identified as a material witness.

Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, testified before a Georgia Senate committee in December 2020, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. He claimed that election workers committed fraud when they counted ballots inside State Farm Arena. The secretary of state's office discredited his allegations.

"It's your responsibility if a false and fraudulent count is submitted to the United States government," Giuliani said to state lawmakers.

Court filings revealed that Giuliani was first subpoenaed by the special purpose grand jury in July, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. He was ordered to appear before the New York Supreme Court in mid-July to address or challenge the court order. Giuliani failed to show up for those proceedings. He was then scheduled to appear before the special grand jury in Fulton County on August 9.

Giuliani's legal team petitioned a Fulton County Superior Court judge to delay his appearance or make other arrangements due to a medical procedure he had recently undergone, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The judge then ordered Giuliani to appear before the grand jury on Aug. 17.
