Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed off on a pair of executive orders extending the time that the state will not collect motor fuel taxes until mid-September, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
In March, state officials took the first step to pause the collection of motor fuel taxes, set to end in May, FOX 5 reports. The most recent extension, set to end Sept. 12, extends a previous extension expiring next Thursday.
"With 40-year high inflation, gas prices that are still far too high, and supply chains strained under the weight of bad decisions, hardworking residents of the Peach State have been feeling the consequences of Joe Biden's recession long before it was announced," Kemp told FOX 5 Atlanta.
According to the report, AAA states gas prices have been on a decline in Georgia after reportedly reaching record prices in mid-June. On Wednesday, the average price was $3.72 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline — down about 60 cents from one month ago.
Among orders signed off by the governor in relation to the motor fuel tax, Kemp's second order renewed Georgia's State of Emergency for Supply Chain Disruptions, set to end alongside the tax suspension on Sept. 12, the report states.
