Mayor Andre Dickens Marks First Six Months of Moving Atlanta Forward with Significant Advances in Essential City Investments, Public Safety, Quality of Life and Youth Engagement

Mayor Dickens continues to build off the success of his first 100 days with advances toward his commitments to keeping Atlanta safe, accessible and prosperous.

“I’ve tasked this Administration with committing to moving Atlanta forward, together, and that is exactly what we are doing, said Mayor Dickens. “Thanks to the incredibly hard work of our City employees and our partners throughout Atlanta, we have delivered meaningful investments in essential city services, public safety, quality of life for all Atlantans and meaningful youth engagement. This is only the beginning, and there’s still more work to be done.”

Mayor Dickens has spearheaded the following initiatives to move Atlanta forward:

  • Mayor Dickens’ FY2023 people-first, fiscally responsible budget was unanimously approved by the City Council.
  • Atlanta voters approved three ballot measures delivering $750 million in investment for transportation, recreation, public safety and arts projects throughout the city.
  • Installed or repaired nearly 3,300 streetlights across the city through the Light the Night program. This represents a step closer to meeting the Mayor’s goal of adding 10,000 streetlights.
  • Opened the Atlanta Police Department Zone 2 Buckhead Village Precinct.
  • Created the Repeat Offender Tracking Unit, a coordinated, full-time operation to address habitual offenders.
  • Marked the completion of over 1,200 affordable housing units and the beginning of construction of over 4,000 units. This signifies a major step towards meeting the goal of building or preserving 20,000 units of affordable housing over the next eight years.
  • Committed $9 million to support the relocation of Forest Cove residents. Twenty-one Forest Cove families have already relocated.
  • Relaunched the Pothole Posse initiative. Over 4,600 potholes have been filled across the city.
  • Launched Operation Clean Sweep. Participants have already filled over 1,800 bags of trash during 144 collection days.
  • Acquired more than 75 acres of land for the development of Atlanta’s first park with direct access to the Chattahoochee River. The development will include a memorial honoring the victims of the Chattahoochee Brick Company’s horrific history of forced convict labor.
  • Launched the Summer Youth Engagement Program, which resulted in thousands of job and internship opportunities across Atlanta, including over 400 placements with the City.
  • Committed $5 million to early childhood education. This is the City’s first-ever direct investment in early childhood education and a first step towards a $20 million goal.
  • Launched and expanded the Midnight Basketball League, which boasts 300 participants.
