GA US House District 5 issued the following announcement on Apr. 25.
Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) announced that Georgia will receive $9,592,448 to bring down heating and cooling costs for working families utilizing Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). These investments, secured through last month’s government funding legislation, will be used to slash Georgians’ energy bills, provide crisis assistance, and help weatherize homes.
Congresswoman Williams said:
“The timing for this money couldn’t be better for families in Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District. Thanks to Putin’s Price Hike, energy prices are skyrocketing as we head into summer. More money for LIHEAP means Fifth District families can afford much-needed air conditioning and to pay their energy bills.”
These investments are especially critical for lower-income households and communities of color who continue to disproportionately feel the impacts of climate change and extreme weather. The funding announced today represents the fourth round of LIHEAP assistance over the past year. In total, Congressional Democrats have fought for and won $149,091,441 in energy assistance for Georgia households since last May. Previous rounds were delivered through:
- American Rescue Plan: $63,876,744
- 2021 Continuing Resolution: $71,046,847
- Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: $4,575,402
